It is snowing yet again here in Atlanta, and this time, the snow is sticking! I cannot believe it: twice in four days? Wow! Last night, I went to a murder mystery dinner, and it was really funny and tons of fun! Then, I went to see “Cloverfield”… I did not think it was that great of a movie… it was more of a thriller than a horror movie. I came back, and I was thinking “Well, Federer must have won his match by now.” Little did I know that he had already lost the first set and he (thankfully) took the second in a tiebreak.
I just finished a 1+ hour long conversation with one of my closest friends; she just received an offer from Microsoft for an internship this summer. I am so happy for her: she worked so hard and totally deserves to be Associate Product Manager (APM). She told me that she used to tell her mother how she always wanted to work for Microsoft: it was her dream, and I cannot be happier that it has finally come true for.
Can you believe it?? I come down here for warm weather, and the snow is just following me around everywhere I go! But anyway, it’s really nice, expect that the town went crazy… I don’t think they have the equipment to deal with snow down here. It is still really cool, though… unexpected surprise. Speaking of unexpected surprises, I was walking back from recitation today, when I got off the phone.
What a pleasant surprise: this means that I passed the first round of interviews at Google. We will see where this week and the next take me… I am so excited! :) It will be a tough decision, though… if I pass the second Google one, then I have to decide between Pardot and Google… that will take a lot of time and careful deliberation too. Anyway, that is all there is for now… just lots of excitement in my life right now!
It is (almost) official! I have my very first CS-related job offer for an internship this summer at Pardot. I am incredibly excited and so happy! I found out today at around 4:45, and it totally just made my day. Checking email today has been really good: there has been nothing but good news! I got another interview offer too, from another local start-up, called ATechs. This will take place at 4PM on Thursday, and I am excited to see the type of work that they do, as well.
After all of the traveling that I did over the winter break, it was a great feeling to come back home. Unfortunately, I was only there for another 5 days or so before I had to come back to university. It was really such a quick break, and I keep on wishing I could have spent more time at home. This past Friday, I was just doing some things in my dorm room, and I really missed Friday night family time.
Today’s interview was absolutely amazing!! I loved Pardot and I hope that I can work there this summer, if I do not get the job at Google. There is a lot to learn on the job, and I hope I can give back. It turns out that the databases project I did last semester will come in extremely useful, if I work there. The same MVC model is used, and since I already know MySQL and PHP, it should hopefully be a bit easier to learn the framework.
Today’s quote of the day: “The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched – they must be felt with the heart.” -Helen Keller I also found out… the biggest companies are not always the best. They will not always make you the happiest, either. Therefore, I cannot wait until Friday 3:30PM!!! :)
It is really amazing what a few weeks can do. Wow. Classes this semester seem very promising and exciting, though, like always! :) I love all of my CS courses. I am also really excited to see most of my 2110 students from last semester in some of my classes this semester. It feels kind of weird sitting on the same side of the classroom as them, but I am *so* happy to see them get past one of the toughest courses at GT.
Although today was a fairly easy day, tomorrow is chalked full of classes. I am really looking forward to this semester’s CS courses. I am also looking forward to seeing some of my closest friends again… it promises to be a great day! :) The last two days have really been busy: I have been cleaning up the dorm room and studying for my phone interview with Google on Wednesday. Daddy spent about 2 hours with me on Saturday helping me prepare for both sets of interviews (Google and Pardot, which is on Friday).
